Smacked Down By Santa

December 23rd, 2007 · 2 Comments

Just when we thought we were going to catch a break and be sailing on the high seas for Christmas, Santa and Mother Nature teamed up to keep us in port for a few more days. Once again we received an email from our esteemed weather guru Dane Clark and this is the latest……

“Kyber,

It now appears another surface low is going to form off the southeast coast late Tuesday and Wednesday and cause strong northeast winds along any path you take to the south either offshore or along the coastline. Even though the winds will be offshore (northwesterly) during the day tomorrow, they are forecast to swing north and northeast and increase as this low organizes to your south late Tuesday. Gale force winds were observed in a similar low last week off the Carolina’s.

Given this new development, I would not recommend departing until after this low departs. Earliest would be Thursday or Friday and would depend on the next system’s evolution. See map below for late Tuesday.

Regards, and Merry Christmas

Dane Clark”

Hatteras Weather

So there we have it, maybe we were bad after all and Santa does have it out for us, who knows? There is a chance we could try to round Cape Hatteras tomorrow and then pull into a harbor further South, but we will just have to see what tomorrow looks like, before we make that decision as the buoys just off the cape are currently 11ft at 10 seconds, with 30 knot winds out of the south.
